Case study: Moldova
Turbosolar solar collectors are used not only on the Polish market. In the area of international transfer of renewable energy technologies, in September 2017, the production of vacuum solar collectors under the Makroterm license was launched in Moldova. The project entitled “Enhance local manufacturing capacity of solar thermal energy systems in the Republic of Moldova” was created thanks to Makroterm’s cooperation with Raut, the Moldova Energy Efficiency Agency and the international organization UNIDO, the UN body for industrial development.
The Polish Government and UNIDO allocated 170,000 euro for the implementation of the project in the city of Balti. – This project shows that the Republic of Moldova can produce absolutely new competitive technologies in the local market – said Manuel Mattiat, an expert on project management of the United Nations Organization for Industrial Development.
The project included all the necessary elements needed to start production. And above all, the equipment required to install the production line, the components needed for production, practical employee training, guarantees and certification of the production process. The specialized technical staff of the Raut company held practical trainings both in Poland, in the Makroterm production center, as on the spot in Moldova. This allowed to confront theoretical knowledge with the expert advice of Makroterm specialists. As a result, Raut employees could immediately start a production line in the Republic of Moldova for the production of 100 vacuum collectors. The next parts of the Makroterm license components will enable the production of up to 4,000 collectors per year. The entire process was monitored by the Moldavian Energy Efficiency Agency.
– We are satisfied with the results of this project. In just 10 months, a production line was installed and 100 vacuum solar collectors were produced with excellent energy efficiency. The most important thing for us is that this project has a social impact, “said Alexander Ciudin from the Moldova Energy Efficiency Agency.
Solar collectors on the Moldavian market
Solar collectors are to be certified in accordance with the technical requirements and European standards of Solar KEYMARK. The Raut company has production and sales plans for at least three years. The price of a single panel manufactured at the factory in Balti was estimated at around 8,000 lei (480 USD), which allowed to reduce the price by 20% compared to competitive imported models. For a family of four to heat the house, three such devices will be needed. For comparison, average earnings in 2016 in Moldova amounted to approx. 5,000 lei (300 USD). Increasing the use of solar energy for heating needs is one of the local factors that can strengthen the development of Moldova, especially in the central and southern regions, where the solar index reaches 3000 hours per year. Local research carried out shows that the installation of solar collectors saves about 35% in the process of producing hot water.
Solar collectors in Moldovan production in the biotechnology laboratory
At the beginning of December 2017, the installation of solar collectors under the license of Makroterm was launched in the biotechnological laboratory of the Moldavian Botanical Garden of the Moldavian Academy of Sciences, which has a demand for hot water at the level of 250.0 m³ per month. – Until now, hot water laboratories have not been supplied to laboratories of this block, and biologists have to heat water in the boiler, which involves significant costs. Installing solar collectors will facilitate the work of employees and reduce the concern for planting material – said Alexandru Teleuta, Director of the Botanical Garden.
Installation of vacuum solar collectors in the laboratory also for training character. The Moldavian Energy Efficiency Agency in its area has organized training in the assembly of solar collectors for technicians from the renewable energy sector. The aim of the workshop based on the technology licensed by Makroterm was to promote the use of renewable energy in the country and create jobs by installing a production line of solar collectors equipped with advanced modern technologies.
